Prof. B.S. Sahay is an educator, researcher and transformational leader who sets high standards to create world class institutions with global outlook and national focus. He was Director of three top national level institutes in India, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur; Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurugram (Gurgaon); and Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad.

Prof. Sahay demitted the Office as Founder Director of IIM Raipur after about six and a half years (2010-2017) on a very satisfying note. IIM Raipur has been ranked at 14th position in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIFR2017) ranking released by MHRD, GoI. Last year IIM Raipur was ranked at 18th position in the NIRF2016. There has been excellent growth on all fronts laying a very solid foundation. IIM Raipur is today known for academic excellence, high quality research, strong international and corporate linkages. Placement has been outstanding since inception. Over one-third of the PGP Class went overseas to complete their one term under exchange program to partner institutions. Doctoral Programs of IIM Raipur are most sought after with about 60 research scholars on roll. Some of them will be receiving Fellowship in the 6th Annual Convocation this year. It is important to share that construction of 200 acres of state-of-the-art campus is going in full swing and will be ready by December 2017. This has been possible with the support and guidance of one and all.

Prior to joining the IIM, Prof. Sahay was the Director of MDI, Gurgaon (2009–2010) and the IMT, Ghaziabad (2005–2009). Prof. Sahay was instrumental in changing the face of MDI into a faculty driven top class research based institute. He brought in radical change at MDI and introduced new HR Policy & Service Rules, Research Policy, New Incentive Scheme for Research & Publications, Faculty Development Programme etc. MDI Gurgaon used to be ranked as one of the top ten schools in India during his tenure.

Prof. Sahay transformed IMT Ghaziabad into an institute par excellence, which used to be ranked as one of the top ten schools in India during his tenure. IMT was a turning point for Prof. Sahay and branded him as a transformational leader who championed for excellence in higher education in India. He was also responsible for setting up IMT Dubai and providing strategic guidance to IMT Nagpur.

Before moving to IMT, Prof. Sahay served on various positions at MDI including Dean (Research) (2003–05), Chairman - Doctoral Programmes (2001-2003), Chairman – Post-Graduate Prgrammes (1999-2001) and Professor of Operations Management from (1996-2005). He was also an Adjunct Professor at School of International Business, Queensland University of Technology, Australia (2002–04) and Founding Chairman of Centre for Supply Chain Management (2000–05). He was the Principal Coordinator for Quality Improvement Programme in Management, sponsored by All India council for Technical Education (AICTE) (2001–03). Under his able leadership, AICTE launched Doctoral Programme in Management under QIP Scheme.

Prof. Sahay obtained his PhD degree in industrial engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He was also an adjunct professor at the School of International Business, Queensland University of Technology and founding chairman of the Centre for Supply Chain Management. He was principal coordinator for the Quality Improvement Programme in Management, sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education. He has published and presented over 200 research papers and 22 books (including 9 with Macmillan Publishers India). Sahay is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, Journal of Enterprise Information Management, Business Process Management Journal, International Journal of Services and Standards, International Journal of Mobile Learning and Organisation, and Journal of Indian Business Research. In addition, he was the founding editor of the International Journal of Value Chain Management. Sahay is on the board of the Decision Sciences Institute and the All India Management Association, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, He is on the advisory board of several universities and organisations and a Fellow of the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering.

Prof. Sahay has received numerous awards for his significant research contributions, teaching and academic administration. His book on Productivity Management was given Escorts Book Award (1998) and ISTD National Book Award (2000) and book on Supply Chain Modelling & Solutions (2007) and World Class Manufacturing received ISTD National Book Award (2001) for outstanding contribution to the understanding of management principles and practices. As a token of excellence for his research work, he received three best paper awards (1996, 1999, 2005). He is the recipient of Fellow of IIIE (2000), Award of Excellence in Research (2005), Best Teacher Award (2008), Nurturer of Talent Award (2008) and Best Director Award (2009). Prof. Sahay has been honoured by IIT Delhi Alumni Association and has been given “IIT Delhi Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to National Development” (2011). Prof. Sahay has been felicitated with "Distinguished Alumnus Award" by BIT Sindri (2010) at the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations held on 20 November 2010. Prof. Sahay received Honorary Fellow of Indian Institute of Materials Management (2014), CSR Award for Excellence 2015 and Amity Academic Excellence Award (2016). Recently he was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award 2017 by India CSR.
