Azerbaijan made its Paralympic Games début at the 1996 Summer Paralympics in Atlanta, with a two-man delegation to compete in track and field and powerlifting. It has taken part in every subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics, but has never participated in the Winter Paralympics.

Azerbaijani athletes have won a total of fifteen Paralympic medals, of which four gold, five silver and six bronze. All of those medals have been won in track and field, shooting or judo. The country's gold medallists to date are:

  • Ilham Zakiyev in the men's over 100 kg category in judo, in 2004 and in 2008
  • Oleg Panyutin in the men's long jump (F12 category) in 2004 and triple jump (F12 category) in 2012
  • Olokhan Musayev in the men's shot put (F55/56) in 2008
  • Ramin Ibrahimov in men's judo (69 kg) in 2012
  • Afag Sultanova in women's judo (57 kg) in 2012
  • Natali Pronina in women's swimming (100m Breaststroke SB12) in 2012
  • Azerbaijan's largest medal haul came in 2012, with a total of twelve medals.
