Overview

As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No. 89 Aurai (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Aurai community development block; Belpakauna, Berai North, Changel, Hathauri, Jajuar (including East, West, and Middle panchayats), Katai, Khanguradih, Lakhanpur, Nagwara, Pahsaul, Bansghatta, Barri, Tehwara and Bandhapura gram panchayats of Katra CD Block.

Aurai (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 15 Muzaffarpur (Lok Sabha constituency).

1977-2010

In the 2010 state assembly elections, Ram Surat Rai of BJP won the Aurai assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Surendra Kumar of RJD. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Arjun Ray of JD(U) defeated Abhaay Kumar, Independent, in October 2005 and Ganesh Prasad Yadav of RJD in February 2005. Ganesh Prasad Yadav representing JD(U) defeated Arjun Roy representing RJD in 2000. Ganesh Prasad Yadav representing JD defeated Rambabu Thakur, Independent/ Congress in 1995 and 1990. Ganesh Prasad Yadav of JP defeated Usha Kumari of Congress in 1985. Ganesh Prasad Yadav of Janata Party (Secular – Charan Singh) defeated Tribeni Prasad Singh of Congress in 1980. Ganesh Prasad Yadav of JP defeated Ram Janam Ojha of Congress in 1977.
