The August 1994 uprising or Maleconazo uprising was a protest against government policies in Cuba. It occurred on August 5, 1994.

Hundreds of Cubans took to streets in Havana, some chanting "Libertad!" (Spanish for "freedom!"). The police eventually dispersed them.

Plot

This uprising against the deprivations of the “special period” saw thousands take to the streets of Havana chanting “Libertad!” However, the country's security forces were able to disperse the demonstrators after a few hours, and nothing more came of the protests.
