Final

The Olympic Men's 400m Final was held at the Lenin Stadium, Moscow on 30 July 1980. Following the American-led boycott, the favourite was reigning Olympic champion Cuba's Alberto Juantorena. Alberto, though, suffered an Achilles tendon injury in 1979; consequently his performances suffered. As a result general unknown Viktor Markin, won gold for the Soviet hosts.

    The quarter finals were held on 28 July 1980. The top four in each heat advanced to the semi finals.

    Round One

    Eight Round One heats were held at the Lenin Stadium on Sunday 27 July 1980. The first four in each heat progressed to the Quarter Finals.
