Reception

Athens 2004 has received generally mixed to negative reviews from critics. Aggregating review websites GameRankings and Metacritic gave the PlayStation 2 version a 65.27% and 61/100 and the PC version a 37.50% and 41/100. IGN gave the game a 4.5/10, criticising the game's ever-repeating button mashing and overall easiness of the game. GameSpy gave the game 4 out of 5 stars, praising the game's varying gameplay.
