Ashok Kumar Jugnauth (born आशोक कुमार जग्नोथ on 4 January 1953) is a former Mauritian Member of Parliament and was the Minister of Health of Mauritius from 2000 to 2005. He served in the cabinet of Anerood Jugnauth from 2000 to 2003 and that of Paul Berenger from 2003 to 2005. He is part of the Jugnauth family. He is the younger brother of Sir Anerood Jugnauth. He was minister during his brother's term as Prime Minister.

Early life and career

Jugnauth was born at Palma, Quatre Bornes. He became a lawyer. His brothers and nephews all are well known as barristers.

He was trained and shaped by his elder brother and became member of the Militant Socialist Movement. He was appointed by Sir Anerood Jugnauth in 2000 after winning at the general elections.

In 2005, due to lost in elections, he stayed as member of the opposition led by his nephew Pravind Jugnauth. He claimed to become the leader of the MSM party.

He being more senior, he claimed to be next leader and head to Prime Minister in 2010. Pravind Jugnauth did not leave his seat resulting him in forming his own party, the UN (Union National). He stood up against Pravind for a seat in Parliament in 2009 but lost.
