Asalto Navideño, Vol. 1 (English: "Call for Christmas") is the first Christmas album and the sixth of Willie Colón & Héctor Lavoe, published for the Christmas season of 1970.
The album has the active participation of Yomo Toro, who collaborates with the cuatro (instrument of 4 rupes), the present instrument in all the songs of the project. Also it has the participation of some members of Fania All-Stars, as Johnny Pacheco.
In addition to all this, the album has been the most sold of the history of the Latin music, whose thematic is exclusively for Christmas. This owed, partly, to that the voice of Héctor Lavoe, added to the geniality of Willie Colón and Yomo Toro, and the hit fusion of typical sounds Latins, like "bomba", traditional sound of Puerto Rico, conformed a recipe that liked to all the public, especially to the Latin community, rooted in the United States.
Such was the success of the album, that Fania Records published, three years afterwards, a second Christmas' project, called Asalto Navideño, Vol. 2. This carried to that the first album changed his name to Asalto Navideño, Vol. 1.
Today, the album and his deluxe edition (that it includes the Vol. 2), they are an invaluable object for all the experts and collectors, and is cataloged like one of the best albums of the history of Latin music.
