Arthur L. "Art" Haywood is a Pennsylvania politician. A Democrat, he is currently the Pennsylvania State Senator for the 4th district. Prior to being elected to the State Senate in the 2014 election, Haywood practiced law and served as a commissioner in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania.
Biography
Haywood is a native of Toledo, Ohio, and attended Morehouse College. He earned a law degree at the University of Michigan Law School and studied at the London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar. He began practicing law and moved to Philadelphia in 1985, where he served as a Cheltenham Township commissioner. Haywood was elected to the Pennsylvania State Senate in the 2014 election. He and his wife, Julie Billingslea, married in 1989 and have three adult children. In 2016 Haywood became the first elected official in Pennsylvania to endorse presidential candidate Bernie Sanders for the 2016 Democratic Party presidential primaries.
