Design and Description

The Argie 15 is a lightweight plywood dinghy that is intended for family day sailing, fishing, and rowing. The boat was designed in 1988 by Dudley Dix. A number of additional sheets have been added to the plans since then, including a conceptual layout for a centerboard instead of the standard daggerboard and enclosed bench seats for improved comfort and flotation. The Argie 15 can be constructed by using the stitch and glue method. According to designer, Dudley Dix, more than 3,000 Argie 15 dinghies have been built worldwide.

The standard sailing rig for the Argie 15 is a sloop configuration with a 42 sq ft jib and 59 sq ft main sail. Builders have widely customized the standard Argie 15 design to fit their own requirements, including using a balanced lug rig, adding lockers, creating scuppered gunwales, and installing a fore-deck.
