April (Hangul: 에이프릴) also stylized as APRIL is a South Korean girl group formed by DSP Media in 2015. They debuted on August 24, 2015, with the mini-album Dreaming and its title track "Dream Candy" (Hangul: 꿈사탕). The group is currently composed of six members: Chaekyung, Chaewon, Naeun, Yena, Rachel and Jinsol.

Pre-debut

From 2012 to 2014, former member Somin and member Chaekyung were members of DSP Media's Japanese girl group Puretty. The group released the singles "Cheki☆Love" in 2012, "Shwa Shwa BABY" in 2013 and then disbanded in 2014 with plans for the members to re-debut into other groups.

In mid-2014, former member Somin and members Chaewon and Chaekyung participated in Kara Project, in which seven trainees competed to become the new members of label mates girl group, KARA. Chaekyung was eliminated, while Somin and Chaewon made it into the final round where they finished in second and fourth place respectively.

In early 2016, member Chaekyung, along with fellow trainee Cho Shiyoon, represented DSP Media in the reality girl group survival show, Produce 101, where she finished in 16th place. She also participated with other competitors of "Produce 101" to "The God of Music 2" and joined its project group C.I.V.A in July 2016. In August 2016, Chaekyung and the Produce 101 members of C.I.V.A joined LOEN Entertainment's project group I.B.I.

2015: Debut with Dreaming, Somin's departure, Boing Boing and Snowman

On February 9, DSP Media announced that they will debut a new girl group, April, in the first half of 2015. They would be labeled as sister group to Fin.K.L and Kara. The name April is a combination of "A" which means the best, and "Pril" stands for a lovely woman you can't help but love.

Following the release of teasers all through the summer, April debuted with the original six-members : Somin, Chaewon, Hyunjoo, Naeun, Yena and Jinsol, on August 24, 2015, with the mini-album Dreaming. They released the music video for their debut album's title song, "Dream Candy" (Hangul: 꿈사탕).

On November 9, leader Somin announced her official departure from the group to pursue a different career. On the same day, DSP Media also revealed that the group will be rearranged with the 5 remaining members : Chaewon, Hyunjoo, Naeun, Yena and Jinsol, and was set to make their first comeback since debut sometimes in November.

On November 25, the group released their first single album Boing Boing that includes the title track "Muah!", "Glass Castle" (Hangul: 유리성) and an instrumental of the title track. "Muah!" is produced by MachWave and Lee Jun-yeop. It is a fresh pop dance track that features the cute charms of April. It was followed by a special winter album Snowman released on December 21.

2016: Spring, first concert Dream Land and line-up changes

On February 12, 2016, DSP Media announced that the group’s fan club name as "Fineapple" (Hangul: 파인에플). The name "Fineapple" is a combination of the words "Fine" and "Apple", which is a shortened form of April. On February 14, the group hold a mini-concert "Everland Romantic Concert" for Valentine's Day.

On February 18, April won the Girl Group Rookie of the Year award at the "22nd Korean Entertainment Arts Awards".

On March 6, the group held their first Japanese fan-meeting titled "April JAPAN FANMEETING 2016~The First Fairy tale~" with 2,000 fans. The event was presented by their label-mate and former KARA member, Heo Young-ji. A mini-fanmeeting of similar concept was also held in Seoul, on February 27, with 500 fans.

The group's second mini album Spring was released on April 27, 2016. The album contains six tracks, including the lead single, "Tinkerbell" (Hangul: 팅커벨). During the Spring promotions, member Hyunjoo took a temporary hiatus from the group, due to health issues from breathing problems and frequent headaches.

On August 21, the group held their first solo concert "Dream Land", at the Baek Am Art Hall in Seoul, to celebrate their first anniversary. Another concert was held in Tokyo, Japan, on October 15. Then labelmate, Chaekyung, also participated in both concerts, as a guest member.

On October 29, Hyunjoo announced her official departure from April, after her 7-month hiatus to pursue an acting career. The same day, DSP Media also confirmed that the four remaining members of the group: Chaewon, Naeun, Yena and Jinsol would be rearranged with the addition of new members for an upcoming comeback set for early 2017.

On November 11 and 23, it was confirmed that members Yoon Chaekyung and Rachel will be the newest addition to the group, for a comeback goal set for January 2017. Chaekyung is a former Puretty member, Kara Project and Produce 101 contestant, as well as a member of project girl-groups I.B.I and C.I.V.A.

2017–present: Prelude

April released their third mini-album Prelude, on January 4, 2017. The title of the album Prelude represent the group's new beginning, with their new line-up consisting of Chaekyung, Chaewon, Naeun, Yena, Rachel and Jinsol. The album is composed of 9 tracks including : 5 new songs (including a gift track), a special version of 3 of their previous tracks "Dream Candy" (Hangul: 꿈사탕), "Muah!" and "Snowman" and an instrumental version of the title track. DSP Media released the music video for the title track, "April Story" (Hangul: 봄의 나라 이야기), on January 4. The group also held their comeback showcase performance for Prelude on the same day. On January 19, DSP Media released the Special choreography MV of "April Story" .

On February 14, April performed a special stage of Apink's "LUV" for the 100th episode of SBS MTV, The Show. Starting from February 16, the group performed on Mnet's M Countdown special stages of "WOW" a song also figuring on the Prelude album.

On February 18, the group performed "So You" (Hangul: 이렇게 너) on JTBC's Sing For You. They later announced that the song would be released as a digital single on February 26, 2017. The live performance of "So You" was used as a MV for the song.

Chaekyung

Yoon Chaekyung (Hangul: 윤채경) was born on (1996-07-07) July 7, 1996 in Incheon, Incheon Metropolitan City, South Korea and raised in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

Chaekyung was revealed as a new member of the group, on November 11, 2016. She is one of the group's lead vocalist.

Prior to joining April, Chaekyung was a Puretty member, Kara Project and Produce 101 contestant and a member of project girl groups I.B.I and C.I.V.A.

On May 1, 2016, then trainee, Chaekyung released the digital single "Clock" with Chaewon.

She was a trainee for around four years before joining the group. In February 2015, She graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School. Chaekyung is currently attending Sungshin Women’s University’s Practical Music Major with bandmate, Chaewon.

Chaewon

Kim Chaewon (Hangul: 김채원) was born on (1997-11-08) November 8, 1997 in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea.

Chaewon was introduced as a member of the group, on July 22, 2015. She is one of the group's main vocalist.

Chaewon was first introduced during the Kara Project, where she finished in fourth place.

In December 2014, then trainee, Chaewon participated to DSP Media's special Christmas Album White Letter with the song "You Are The One " in duet with Somin, as well as title track "White".

On May 1, 2016, Chaewon released the digital single "Clock" with then trainee, Chaekyung.

In April 2016, Chaewon made a cameo appearance in MBC’s drama "Mystic TV: Surprise" as Lee NanYoung. In July 2016, she made her official acting debut in the web drama "Reply Pyeongchang, 100°F" as its main female lead, Hwang HyeWon.

She trained for around three years before debuting with April. In February 2016, Chaewon graduated from Gyeongju Geumseong Women's High School with a music major. She is currently attending Sungshin Women’s University’s Practical Music Major with bandmate, Chaekyung.

Naeun

Lee Naeun (Hangul: 이나은) was born on (1999-05-05) May 5, 1999 in Daejeon, Daejeon Metropolitan City, South Korea.

Naeun was introduced as a member of the group, on July 21, 2015. She is one of the group's lead vocalist as well as the visual.

Naeun was a JYP Entertainment trainee. In November 2014, she made a cameo appearance in Got7's MV for "Stop Stop It".

In May 2016, Naeun made her official acting debut in the VR web drama "April Love".

She trained for around four months at DSP before debuting with April. Naeun is currently attending the Seoul School of Performing Art program of Art & Acting.

Yena

Yang Yena (Hangul: 양예나) was born on (2000-05-22) May 22, 2000 in Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.

Yena was introduced as a member of the group, on July 23, 2015. She is one of the group's vocalist and rapper, as well as the main dancer.

Yena was a trainee for around eight months before debuting with April. She is currently attending the Seoul School of Performing Art program of Art & Acting.

Rachel

Rachel (Hangul: 레이첼) was born Sung Nayeon (Hangul: 성나연) on (2000-08-28) August 28, 2000 in Seoul, South Korea.

Rachel was introduced as a new member of the group, on November 23, 2016. She is one of the group's vocalist and rapper, as well as the lead dancer.

Little information about Rachel has been released, however, it is known that she resided in Portland, Oregon, USA for around four years. Rachel's specialty is ballet, she even won in various competitions for 7 years.

Jinsol

Lee Jinsol (Hangul: 이진솔) was born on (2001-12-04) December 4, 2001 in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

Jinsol was introduced as a member of the group, on July 20, 2015. She is the group's youngest member (known as "maknae") as well as one of the group's main vocalist.

In mid-2016, Jinsol participated in survival show "Girls Spirit" in which she was the youngest contestant. On September 2, 2016, Jinsol was selected as the new MC (known as "Hani") for the popular children show "Tok! Tok! Boni Hani". She is the first kpop idol to present the show.

Jinsol was a student at the Academy Best Vocal and trained for around half a year at DSP before debuting with April. She is currently attending the Seoul School of Performing Art. Jinsol had previously dropped out of Seowon Middle School in order to concentrate on her debut with the group.

Somin

Jeon Somin (Hangul: 전소민) was born on (1996-08-22) August 22, 1996 in Seoul, South Korea.

Somin is also a former Puretty member, and took part on the Kara Project where she finished in second place.

Somin was introduced as a member of the group, on July 19, 2015. She was the group's leader as well as one of the lead vocalist. Somin officially left the group, on November 9, 2015. She trained for nearly five years before debuting with April.

On October 18, 2014, Somin made a cameo appearance in EPIK HIGH's BORN HATER MV.

In December 2014, then trainee, Somin participated to DSP Media's special Christmas Album White Letter with the song "You Are The One " in duet with Chaewon, as well as title track "White".

In December 2016, Somin re-debuted as a member of co-ed group, K.A.R.D, also under DSP Media. Their first pre-debut project song "Oh Na Na" features former KARA member Heo Young-ji was released, on December 13, 2016.

Hyunjoo

Lee Hyunjoo (Hangul: 이현주) was born on (1998-02-05) February 5, 1998 in Seoul, South Korea.

Hyunjoo was introduced as a member of the group, on July 26, 2015. She was one one of the group vocalist and lead dancer, as well as the visual.

She trained for nearly two years before debuting with April. On February 7, 2017, Hyunjoo graduated from the Seoul School of Performing Art program of Art & Acting. Hyunjoo is currently attending Sungshin Women’s University.

On May 12, 2016, she took a temporary hiatus during the promotion of the group's second mini-album "Spring" due to health issues from breathing problems and frequent headaches. On October 29, 2016, Hyunjoo officially left the group to pursue an acting career.

Prior to leaving the group, Hyunjoo had filmed OCN/Naver's web drama Moomin's Room appearing as supporting role, Lee Moda.
