The Appalachian State Mountaineers football teams represented Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, United States. The university was called Appalachian State Normal School when the first team was fielded in 1928 with Graydon Eggers as head coach. The following season C. B. Johnson took over coaching duties of the newly named Appalachian State Teachers College. The Mountaineers played their home games at College Field.
