Prior to turning professional, Nigro played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. On May 14, 2010, the St. Louis Blues signed Nigro to a three-year entry-level contract. In his next two seasons he was assigned to American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.

After suffering an injury with the Rivermen in a pre-season contest for the 2012–13 season, Nigro was re-assigned to ECHL affiliate, the Evansville IceMen, in order to regain fitness.

At the conclusion of his contract with the Blues, Nigro was rendered a free agent and on August 26, 2013, signed a one-year contract with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.
