Annemarie Esche is a prominent German scholar of Burmese literature. Beginning her study of Burmese as a German teacher in Burma she later became a professor at Humboldt University in Berlin. She is the widow of Otto Esche (died 2010) with whom she cooperated in the compilation of a German-Myanmar dictionary.
