Animal Rescue Sofia is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded and registered in Sofia, Bulgaria. The organization is actively working to solve the issue with the homeless animals in Bulgaria. Its lies in the largest Bulgarian online dog forum – www.dog.bg.

Currently, Animal Rescue Sofia manages the largest dog shelter in Bulgaria – the Bogrov dog shelter, near Sofia. The organization takes care of 500 dogs there. Also ARS is running a free spay/neuter clinic at the shelter and is running Animal adoption programs in Bulgaria as well as the Netherlands and Germany.

Unfortunately their three-year lease expires in December 2013 and cannot be renewed. After investigating all other alternatives, Animal Rescue Sofia is now fundraising in order to purchase a nearby farm which has the right location, buildings and infrastructure for housing all the remaining animals and creating a model new shelter.

The foundation is funded almost entirely by private and corporate donations.
