Nikolić competed to represent Serbia and Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song Romale, romali, in the end the song finished in 5th place in the national final having scored 46 points. Afterwards it was decided that the country would not participate in the contest in Athens, Greece at all. Romale, romali became a summer hit which was played many times on the commercial Serbian television networks such as RTS, BKTV and Pink TV.

In 2009, Ana was once again in the line-up for representing Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009. She was hotly tipped as the favourite to win Beovizija. On the evening of the semi-final, when the last of the ten qualifiers was about to be announced, several people in the audience cheered Nikolić's name. When host Jovana Janković opened the envelope however, she remarked (in Serbian) "Not Ana," as the final qualifier was Pozitivan Haos instead. Several hours before the final, RTS released a statement that the televotes were not counted properly, and therefore Ana and Ivana Selakov were to have qualified. Ana, however, offended by the mistake, chose not to participate.
