The Ames family is an American family associated with establishing Ames Manufacturing Company and Ames True Temper.

John Ames (born 1738), a former blacksmith arms manufacturer, shovel manufacturer and military captain, is the patriarch of the family. After marrying Susanna Howard in the late 1750s they had eight children named David, Keziah, Susanna, Huldah, Abigail, Cynthia, John, and Oliver.
