Alternatives International (Alternatives) is a transnational alternative policy group and network of social movements that produces and disseminates analyses, proposals and information tools oriented towards the enhancement of democracy, social justice, human rights and ecological sustainability. Alternatives was established in 2005, with its headquarters based in Montreal.

Goals and Activities

Alternatives defines itself as a network of social movements engaged in a struggle against neoliberalism, new imperialism and war.

In seeking to advance social justice and ecological sustainability, Alternatives produces and disseminates critical analyses and news, seeking to spark debate around exiting social, cultural and political practices. It also works to build partnerships, dialogue and solidarity between egalitarian social movements and organizations (who are brought together via a network of websites) and engages in social movement capacity building, creating new initiatives for young activists through internships and exchange programs.

While its headquarters are based in Montreal, its members are active internationally, with organizations in Africa, the Arab world, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
