Algogulf was the third and last name of a bulk carrier launched in 1961, laid-up in 1999, and scrapped in 2002.
She was launched as the J.N. McWatters, the second vessel of that name operated by the Misener Shipping Company. In 1991 when Misener retired its third vessel named after Scott Misener, they renamed the J.N. McWatters became their fourth vessel to be named Scott Misener.
In 1995 she was bought by Algoma Central, who renamed her Algogulf, the second vessel of that name. She was laid up in Hamilton, Ontario, at the end of the shipping season, in 1999. Over the next three years she had parts removed, as she remained at her moorings, in Hamilton. She was scrapped in Port Colborne in 2002.
The Algogulf was one of the last lake freighters to be powered by steam turbines when most vessels are now powered by large diesels.
