Adolfas Urbšas (born Kirdonys, Rokiškis municipality, Lithuania 18 August 1900; died 19 May 1973) was an officer in the army of the Independent State of Lithuania and then the Red Army, rising eventually to the rank of Major General.

Biography

Urbšas graduated from high school in Panevėžys in 1922. He joined the army and, between 1934 and 1940, rose to become Chief of Staff of the Lithuanian army.

In 1940, Urbšas joined the Red Army to serve in World War II and rose to the position first of Chief of Staff of the Lithuanian Division and finally to Commanding Officer of the 16th Rifle Division. In this position, Urbšas participated in the Soviet liberation of Klaipėda in 1945. He was named the first honorary citizen of Klaipėda.
