Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. LLC is a design and animation production company in New York City. The company's work has a wide range of looks and animation styles, utilizing computer graphics, puppets, stop motion and a diverse selection of illustration. Richard O'Connor and Brian O'Connell founded the company in 2003 as Asterisk Animation after several years of producing for R. O. Blechman at The Ink Tank. After Brian O'Connell left Asterisk in 2011 to form Asteroid Media Inc., Richard O'Connor re-branded the company as Ace & Son Moving Picture Co. LLC.
In 2011, the firm produced a suite of signal films for the Ottawa International Animation Festival, a series of commercials for Web.com, title design for A New York Fairy Tale, and the short film Sympathy for the Fish: A Holiday Story.
2012 productions include animation for Katy Chevigny's The Honor Code, which premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival, video installations for the New York Book Expo, 1787 -a short film on the drafting of the American Constitution for TEDed, graphics for Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay, editorial/graphics for The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The Hamptons Film Festival, The Chase Community Giving Awards, The Intelligent Channel and animation packages for Unilever and Canongate Publishing.
The 2012 short film Christmas Day features music by The Handsome Family and has screened at film festival around the country and captured the Audience Choice Award at The Citrus Cel Animation Festival, Outstanding Achievement in Animation from Brooklyn's Willifest, the Silver Telly, and Excellence in Design from ASIFA-East Animation Festival.
The company is currently in production on Elliot Cowan's Stressful Adventures of Boxhead & Roundhead feature film.
Filmography
Other notable projects include several films with rock band They Might Be Giants. Four of these pieces were created for the Disney DVD Here Come the ABCs, and two were made for Here Come the 123s. Two more were made in 2005 for Venue Songs. Experimental film artist Martha Colburn worked with Asterisk on Celebrate Brooklyn and underground comix artist Kim Deitch allowed the use of Waldo the Cat for Dallas.
During the 2008 Presidential Campaign, Asterisk produced The Naked Campaign for The New Yorker in conjunction with Gail Levin and Steve Brodner.
