The genus name Aaata has been described as a synonym to two species in the Microcionidae family of sea sponges (Demospongiae). The two species being:

  • Aaata brepha (de Laubenfels, 1930); also known as Anaata brepha
  • Aaata spongigartina (de Laubenfels, 1930); also known as Anaata spongigartina

    • The above are synonyms for Clathria brepha and Clathria spongigartina respectively (de Laubenfels, 1930). The two later names are now the currently accepted definitions for the species.
