A Coruña is one of the 4 electoral districts (Galician: circunscricións, Spanish: circunscripciones) used for the Parliament of Galicia—the regional legislature of the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia.
A Coruña is the largest municipality and the only municipality with more than 100,000 voters. After that the largest towns are Ferrol and Santiago de Compostela.
PP—formerly AP and CP—has won every election in this district, obtaining a majority of seats in four occasions. From 1993 to 2009 elections, PSdeG and BNG have shared importance as second or third party. In the 2012 election, the newly formed alliance between EU and Anova (called AGE) made its appearance in the left. It became the second party in the 2016 election with the En Marea coalition.
Electoral system
Voting is on the basis of universal suffrage in a secret ballot. Only lists polling above 5% of valid votes (3% until 1989) in each district (which includes blank ballots—for none of the above) are entitled to enter the seat distribution.
