6235 Burney is a main-belt asteroid that was discovered on November 14, 1987 by Seiji Ueda and Hiroshi Kaneda at Kushiro. It is named after Venetia Phair (née Burney) (1918–2009) who, as a girl of eleven, first suggested the name of "Pluto" for the dwarf planet (which at the time was considered a planet).
