5th Bengal Light Cavalry was a military unit of the Honourable East India Company. It served in the occupation of Kabul in 1841, and part of the regiment acted as rearguard in the disastrous "retreat from Kabul" (where it was annihilated); the rest served through the defence of Jellalabad under Sale (battle honour). It later served in the Cabul campaign of 1842 (battle honour) and in both Anglo-Sikh Wars.

In the course of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 all the Bengal Light Cavalry regiments were lost to mutiny or disbandment.
