4th Gawad Urian Awards

The 4th Gawad Urian Awards was held in 1980. They honored the best Filipino films for the year 1979

Jaguar was the runaway winner for this year awards night winning 6 of 12 trophies including Best Picture and Best Director. However, it was also one of the most controversial awards night in the history of Gawad Urian. Lino Brocka ascended the stage not to receive the directorial award for his film Jaguar, but to reject it. He prepared a speech and he accused the group of being prejudice. HE also refused all further awards and nominations from the manunuris since then.
