The 2nd Gawad Urian Awards was held in 1978. This is to honor the great films of 1977
The 1977 Gawad Urian, live up to its reputation of choosing the winners not based on popularity but on the merits of the film and its performances. Word spread around that “you don’t have to spend a cent for PR to win in the Urian.” One example of which is the Best Actress winner for this year. Daria Ramirez (Sino’ng Kapiling, Sino’ng Kasiping) bested formidable co-nominees such as Vilma Santos for Burlesk Queen and Hilda Koronel for Kung Mangarap ka't Magising. There was also a great debate on choosing this years Best Picture, cinematic style or filmic content?. It's a tossed between Robert Arevalo’s "Hubad na Bayani" and Ishmael Bernal’s "Dalawang Pugad, Isang Ibon". In the end, "Hubad na Bayani" won as best Picture while Ishmael Bernal won his first Gawad Urian Best director.
