The 26th International Emmy Awards took place on November 23, 1998, at the Hilton Hotel in New York City, United States, and hosted by Dutch comedian Hans Liberg.

Ceremony

The nominees for the 26th edition of the International Emmy were awarded during a gala ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in New York City, attended by about 1,000 executives of international TVs and celebrities. The winners were chosen from over 400 entries submitted by broadcasters and producers from around the world.

The British, the Japanese and the Germans received the most nods in the six categories under consideration.

In addition to the six program awards, Robert Halmi Sr., chairman of Hallmark Entertainment, received the Intl. Council’s Founders Award, and Sam Nilsson, director general of Swedish Television, was honored with the Directorate Award. Among the presenters were John Ritter, Alan Thicke, Linda Purl and Joanne Woodward.
