On 2 January 1972 the then Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh formed a new armed force called "Jatiyo Gonorokkhi Bahini (JRB)". The 6th JRB was formed as part of that force in Khulna.

History

On 23 October 1975 this 6th JRB was reorganized into an infantry battalion and 25th Battalion (Mritunjoyee Pochish) of the East Bengal Regiment was born in Bangladesh Army. On 13 November 1975 "Mritunjoyee Pochish" was brought from Gilatola of Khulna to Jessore under the ORBAT of the then 55 Infantry Brigade, when the JRB was abolished. The then Chief of Army Staff raised the flag of the Battalion on 12 November 1975. The first Commanding Officer of the unit was Lt Col Mofizur Rahman Chowdhury (Later retired as Brigadier General) while the first Subedar Major was Honorary Lt Md Rojob Ali. The Battalion received the National Standard on 24 February 1999.
