Novak Djokovic was the two-time defending champion, but lost in the fourth round to Tommy Haas. This championship was the first since the tournament's inception that no American was featured in the quarterfinals, with the last player from the US, Sam Querrey, beaten in the fourth round by Tomas Berdych. This meant that it was also the first all-European final eight at the Miami Masters.
Andy Murray won his second Miami Masters title (after 2009), defeating David Ferrer in the final, 2–6, 6–4, 7–6(7–1).
