The Men's singles tournament of this event started in the week of March 8. It was the year's first of nine tournaments in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 series.

Rafael Nadal was the defending champion, but he lost to Ivan Ljubičić in the semifinals.

After taking out Nadal in the semis, Ivan Ljubičić defeated Andy Roddick in the final 7–6(7–3), 7–6(7–5). It was Ljubičić's first win in a Masters 1000 final, after his fourth attempt. It was his first title for the 2010 season. Up until the 2014 Australian Open, this was the last occasion where a non big four player won a tournament where all 4 were competing.
