The 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne) is a division-level Special Operation Forces command within the United States Army Special Operations Command. The command was established on 30 September 2014, grouping together Green Berets, Psychological Operations (MISO), Civil Affairs and Support troops into a single organization operating out of its new HQ building at Ft Bragg, NC.

The main task of the 1st Special Forces Command is to assemble a force specifically tailored for dealing with what the warfare consisting of a mix of traditional combat and unconventional warfare. The stated mission of the 1st Special Forces Command is to consolidate all Special Forces operators and support troop units under one unified command and to combine existing organizations responsible for training and support to foreign fighters. The new command includes all Active (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 10th Special Forces Groups) and the 19th and 20th National Guard Special Forces Groups, the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade: the 4th Military Information Support Group and 8th Military Information Support Group (Airborne) (formerly known as PSYOP Groups) and the 528th Sustainment Brigade. The Command has the ability to rapidly deploy a high-level headquarters to run sustained, unconventional campaigns in foreign theatres.

History

On December 21 2016, Stars and Stripes reported that the 1st Special Forces Command were taking part in Operation Inherent Resolve as the Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve.
