Jana Novotná and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario were the defending champions, but lost in quarterfinals to Martina Hingis and Helena Suková.
Hingis and Suková won the title, defeating Meredith McGrath and Larisa Neiland 5–7, 7–5, 6–1 in the final. It was the 1st Grand Slam doubles title and the 2nd title overall for Hingis, and the 9th and final Grand Slam doubles title and the 64th title overall for Suková, in their respective careers.
