Monica Seles was the two-time defending champion, she was unable to participate due to a stabbing incident in April of this year.
Steffi Graf defeated Helena Suková 6–3, 6–3 in the final to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 1993 U.S. Open. It was Graf's third U.S. Open title and Suková's fourth and final appearance in a Grand Slam final.
