The Broncos were in their fourth year as members of the Big Sky Conference (and NCAA) and played their home games on campus at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

Led by sixth-year head coach Tony Knap, the Broncos were 9–2 in the regular season and undefeated in conference (6–0) to win their first Big Sky title.
