The 1951 Detroit Lions season was their 22nd in the league. The team improved on their previous season's output of 6–6, winning seven games. They failed to qualify for the playoffs for the 16th consecutive season.
During their 24–17 victory over the Green Bay Packers, Detroit became the first team in NFL history to score three touchdowns of 70 yards or more in one period.
