The 1949 National League Division One was the fourth post-war season of the highest tier of motorcycle speedway in Great Britain. Birmingham Brummies joined the league.
The Anniversary (League) Cup was discontinued as the teams would meet each other 6 times in the league. Wembley Lions won the National League for the fourth time.
