The 1947 SMU Mustangs football team represented Southern Methodist University during the 1947 college football season. Coached by Matty Bell, SMU gained the Southwest Conference crown, posting a 9–0–2 record. SMU faced Penn State in the 1948 Cotton Bowl Classic.
