1944 record 3–6 (2–4 Big Ten) | ||
Head coach Harry Stuhldreher (9th year) |
The 1944 Wisconsin Badgers football team represented the University of Wisconsin in the 1944 Big Ten Conference football season. This was the first season since 1905 that the Badgers started the season away from home.
With a war-depleted roster, freshman Allan Schafer was named the starting quarterback. Schafer died as a result of injuries sustained in the game versus Iowa. He was seventeen years old. His family founded the Allan Schafer Memorial Fund and the Allan J. Shafer, Jr. Memorial Award at the University of Wisconsin was created in his honor. His jersey number (#83) was retired and his name appears on the Camp Randall Stadium façade.
