Like the previous year's tennis championship, the challenge round of was Robert Wrenn vs. Fred Hovey. This time, Wrenn defeated Hovey and took his third U.S. title.

With Malcolm Whitman, William Clothier and Holcombe Ward, three players made their first appearance at the championships who would eventually win the title in later years.
