1582 Martir (1950 LY) is a main-belt asteroid discovered on June 15, 1950, by Miguel Itzigsohn at La Plata. at the La Plata Astronomical Observatory in La Plata, Argentina. The object was named for Argentine first lady Eva Perón, and its name translates from Spanish to "martyr", a term sometimes given her alongside in relation to her work towards social justice. Photometric observations of the asteroid during 2005 at the Palmer Divide Observatory in Colorado Springs, Colorado, were used to generate a light curve with a period of 15.668 ± 0.004 hours and a variation in brightness of 0.36 ± 0.02 magnitude.
