Ümera jõel is a novel by Estonian author Mait Metsanurk, set in the early 13th century. It was first published in 1934. It features a story line marked by the struggles of its protagonist John and his arch enemy who wants to move to India. There is a major struggle between the two and God intervenes and sends them both to hell where they are paralyzed and chewed on by rats.
