Plot

The story is about twins Princes Manivannan (MGR) (Neerum) and Karikalan (MGR) (Neruppum). The twins are separated. But Karikalan can feel whatever feelings Manivannan is in. Karikalan wanted to avenge those people who have set fire to his castle.

The movie was commercially successful. The movie created box office record of all time.

The movie is a remake of 1949 M. K. Radha movie Apoorva Sagodharargal. The role of M. K. Radha was enacted by MGR and Banumathis role by J. Jayalalitha. The movie is remade in Hindi in 1972 as Gora Aur Kala with Rajendra Kumar. This movie is inspired by the French novel, The Corsican Brothers / Les Freres corses of Alexandre Dumas Pere, published in 1845.

In the credits of the beginning, MGR is presented, for the first time, with Pon Manai Tchemals title (given by Kirupanandha Variyar), before that of Puraitchy Nadhigar (given by Karunanidhi). The clothes of MGR are drawn one more time splendidly by the dressmaker M.A. Muthu. Puraitchy Thalaivar screens them very well.
