Online Video Creation Platform

showbox is a cloud base video editing software that offers brands and creators the production of studio quality video. Showbox users generate video content using the platform, in formats generally associated with viral media, including sports, fashion, cooking, travel and more, that can be shared on social media or embedded elsewhere on the web . In March 2015, Showbox was nominated as one of the 10 Israeli startups to take over our TV screens this year.

Technology

The platform includes a green screen technology, allowing users to change video background using a wide selection of footage options, without special equipment.

Showbox partnered with Getty Images and ShutterStock to provide users with built-in media libraries allowing them to enrich their videos with licensed visual content of their choice. .

Founders

Showbox was founded in 2013 by Effi Atad and Tomer Afek. Effi Atad founded New Media Communications, which was sold to the American company Harmonic Inc. in 1997. Prior to becoming an internet entrepreneur, Effi Atad was a film producer for the films A Thousand and One Wives and Ahrey HaChagim (1994).

Tomer Afek was the CEO of ConvertMedia, a New York-based media buying platform and a principal investor in one of Israel's biggest Venture Capital firms, Evergreen.

History

The company has opened the platform’s gate to selected users that have registered to its beta in late 2015. In February 2016, the platform was officially launched, enabling any visitor to sign up and create videos online. In April 2016, Showbox was featured on the Product Hunt website, coming to the top of the website's lists for that day and week with over 1400 upvotes by the Product Hunt community. Also in April 2016, Showbox partnered with YouTube’s leading Multi Channel Networks including Fullscreen, BroadbandTV, StyleHaul, AwesomenessTV, and BuzzMyVideos in order to enable their communities of creators to access the platform. In June 2016, the company launched Showbox For Brands - a business-oriented video creation platform, enabling companies to create video content in-house, and with their communities and influencers. In March 2017, the company launched Showbox Engage - a more specific use case of the video creation for brand launched in 2016, enabling companies to launch user generated content campigans with their communities Also in March 2017, the company was chosen as one of The Culture Trip's 10 startups to watch in 2017.

Investors

Showbox has raised over $12.6M to date in series A funding round. All of the capital was raised from private Angels, most of whom are media executives such as Charles Petruccelli, the former president of American Express Global Business Travel; Brad Wechsler, chairman of IMAX; Wix co-founder and chief technology officer Giora Kaplan; and TPG Capital senior partner Karl Peterson.

Events

In 2014, Showbox team attended Web Summit in Dublin, Ireland. Showbox also exhibited at VidCon 2015 in Anaheim, California, enabling over 30,000 attendees to create videos on the spot. In April 2016, Showbox was among the exhibitors at the Millennial 20/20 Summit in London, UK. Showbox also took part in the Socialbakers' Engage 2016 Conference in Prague, Czech Republic in May 2016. In July 2016 Showbox won the Publicis90 award, as part of Publicis' "global initiative to foster digital entrepreneurship", financially supporting and mentoring the 90 startups that won. In September 2016, Showbox exhibited in the Content Marketing World Conference, an event which was organized by Content Marketing Institute in Cleveland, Ohio.
