Career

Born in Miami, Florida, Wynne graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics in 1984. In 1989, he earned a master's in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin. Wynne began his journalism career working as an entertainment reporter and television columnist for the San Antonio Light newspaper in Texas. After the Hearst paper folded in 1994, he moved to Los Angeles. He wrote an episode for Walker, Texas Ranger titled "The Big Bingo Bamboozle" that featured Doris Roberts and Robert Forster as guest stars.

Wynne is a long-time contributor to Forbes magazine and a former writer for Walker, Texas Ranger. Wynne's Forbes column, "A Different Lens," focuses on the practice of public relations and examines topics ranging from social media and crisis PR to best practices in writing and methods to build relationships with reporters and editors. In Los Angeles, he also worked as a freelance reporter for Newsweek magazine and the Los Angeles Times covering entertainment, television and lifestyle magazine stories.

Wynne worked for the University of Southern California for 5 years in the main public relations office then as the Director of Marketing for the Marshall School of Business. At USC, he led the marketing efforts for a major rise in the rankings, as the Marshall School jumped from #34 to #21 in the U.S. News & World Report business school rankings in 1998 and entered BusinessWeek's Top 25 Business School rankings for the first time in 1999.

Currently, Wynne owns a public relations firm, in Manhattan Beach, California. He also operates media networking conferences for public relations directors for business schools and engineering schools.

Personal life

Wynne started his own firm in 2000 and clients have included Cornell University's Johnson School, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, MIT, UCLA Law School, Menlo College and many others. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and earned a master's degree in communications from the University of Texas at Austin. He is married to author Dawn Wynne and he and his wife have a daughter.
