PhoneCaption.com is a federally funded, free captioning service for the Hard of Hearing community. Also referred to as FreeCaptioning, the service provides captioned text for phone calls for individuals who are hard of hearing or have some degree of hearing loss. This is similar to captioned television in that it provides a verbatim readable version of what is being said, making hearing loss during phone conversations no longer a problem.

The latest voice-recognition technology is paired with specially trained operators who provide a transcription of what is being said, in captions on a computer screen linked to the internet, for the hard of hearing party. These relayed messages are displayed in near real time as they are received. PhoneCaption can also display to PDAs, BlackBerry mobile phones, and Cisco IP phones.
