GreatAmericans.com is a website offering free access to videos about men and women in a variety of military, fire/rescue, and law enforcement jobs. The site was launched on November 11, 2008, by Great Americans, a US-based private media company.

GreatAmericans.com aims “to inspire America with videos telling stories about Great Americans.” The site's banner states, “Ordinary people. Extraordinary deeds.”

Website Features

Visitors to GreatAmericans.com can upload or view videos. Videos feature uniformed personnel in the following categories:

  • Military, which includes the United States Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, Special Ops, military support organizations, and veterans.
  • Law Enforcement, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, state police, and police.
  • Fire and Rescue Organizations, which includes firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and smokejumpers.
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
  • Homeland Security, which includes the U.S. Coast Guard, Border Patrol, and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
  • Heroes, which includes those who have been wounded or lost their lives in the line of duty.

    • The site hosts events on Veterans Day that allow users to communicate with active-duty military personnel through personal messages or prerecorded audio from celebrities.

    The site also has a channel on Hulu, a popular streaming video website.

    Reception by the Military

    According to Brigadier General Wilma L. Vaught, USAF (Ret), the President of the Women in Military Service Memorial Foundation, GreatAmericans.com provides “an opportunity to showcase and tell the stories of courage and patriotism of the women serving in America’s armed forces.” The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, a GreatAmericans.com partner, touts the site's “stories of amazing courage, valor, sacrifice and patriotism.”
