History
In 1999, 25 year old entrepreneur and college student Josh Knoedler began experimenting with various products in the online marketplace, namely, eBay. Sourcing dozens of products from assorted venues and genres, he stumbled upon a local importer of decorative lighting.
Although Josh had never heard of rope lights before he knew the importer was thriving, so he decided to try his luck selling lights online. It wasn't long before consumers began purchasing his lights in online auctions. Josh saw a great opportunity to advance his career and decided to start his own business. He funded his new business with a credit card and created an office in his bedroom. Attending college, self-employed, and with no other staff, Josh studied by day and worked by night. In his first year the part-time business grossed about $40,000.
In 2002, Josh began to consider creating a web site to feature his expanding line of lighting products. He realized that unique lighting solutions add a high return on investment and would appeal to homeowners and businesses alike. Rushed to come up with a business name, he quickly selected a nickname from his previous employment at a local furniture and appliance store - "birddog". When sales continued to increase Josh hired his Mom as his first employee. With one employee Josh founded Birddog Distributing, Inc.
In 2002, Josh partnered with Macon, Georgia's Allen McCrary, Jr. A self-taught computer and website guru, Allen helped Josh launch birddogdistributing.com. Within a couple of years the business saw huge growth and began expanding rapidly. In 2007 the company grossed over a million in sales. In 2014 Birddogdistributing.com expanded into the commercial lighting industry.
Current Status
Today, Birddogdistributing.com has grown and evolved into a major importer of LED lighting. With an expanded line of products the company continues to focus on innovative new lighting.
