30 March – a group of People's Liberation Party-Front of Turkey militants headed by Mahir Çayan who had kadnapped two British and one Canadian techinians were killed after gunfight
7 May - In the kurultay (congress) of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Bülent Ecevit the former secretary general of the party defeated party leader İsmet İnönü.
